China Mobile Joins Hands with 16 International Operators to Release White Paper on 6G Requirements and Design Considerations

source:People’s Posts and Telecommunications News time:2023-03-23

The White Paper on 6G Requirements and Design Considerations, jointly led by China Mobile, Vodafone Group and US Cellular, was officially released at the Next Generation Mobile Network Alliance (NGMN), a global mobile network operator organization. The white paper was prepared with the participation of 53 international organisations, including 17 operators, 23 equipment manufacturers and 13 research institutes worldwide.

The white paper defines 6G requirements from the perspective of operators, including the evolution path requirements for achieving digital inclusion, energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and flexible deployment, as well as new capability requirements for future use cases. It also proposes 6G system architecture and design considerations, which will provide reference for the International Organization for Standardization to formulate 6G standards and the International Telecommunication Union to develop the IMT-2030 vision.

China Mobile holds a leadership position in the IMT 2030 (6G) promotion team in China, responsible for 10 National Key R&D Plan projects such as the 6G smart simplified network architecture and wireless air interface AI. The “Digital Twin, Smart Ubiquity” 6G vision proposed by China Mobile has basically formed industry consensus. China Mobile’s 6G related research has also made continuous progress. As of now, more than 10 single point 6G technologies have been tackled, and a systematic 6G network architecture has been proposed for the first time. A total of 31 6G series white papers and over 60 high-quality papers have been published, ranking first among global operators. The joint development of 7 key technology prototypes has received widespread attention from the industry and academia.

The White Paper on 6G Requirements and Design Considerations released this time is the third 6G white paper jointly led by China Mobile in the Next Generation Mobile Network Alliance, following the release of the White Paper on 6G Drivers and Vision in 2021 and the White Paper on 6G Use Cases and Analysis in 2022. It is expected to promote the leap of 6G research from requirement vision to system design, once again reflecting the unity of global operators, manufacturers, and academia, and the determination to jointly create global unified standards and industrial ecology.
